Photos ...... Finally

Socks for my mom..... modeled by me!

They're in Regia 4 Fach Haltbar (does that mean 4 ply? I have no clue).
I used a basic sock pattern from The Needle Emporium in Ancaster, where I bought the yarn.
I won't use it again. They're a little too big for me.

And My Molly Malone Hairband...... pattern and yarn mentioned previously (and I'm too lazy to do it again).

And, you can see my roots coming in in the second picture...... yuck!

And Another One....

i finished something else.... perhaps I do better without a camera?
It's "Molly's Headband", a web pattern from Interweave Knits.

I used elsebeth lavold's Hempathy, in colour 007, which is a light sage.

I finished it in just a few hours, starting yesterday and finished it this morning.

This yarn is REALLY nice! I've spent the last hour or so flipping around on the internet looking for a pattern to make using it......

What about this...

Or this....?

And hey- did you see Jack Bauer kill that guy with his knees last night? I'd like to learn how to do that.

Progress

Well, I've actually got a project finished (well, almost, I just have to graft the toe of the second sock), but my brother has my dumb ass camera, so I can't show you any photos!

I did quite a bit on my YeeHaw Lady hat this morning at the Laundromat. I can see it taking shape, but I think it's going to be way too big. I didn't want to try it on there, because there were a lot of people, and I didn't want to look like a dork.

So, as soon as that toe is grafted, I can start another project, woo hoo!

By Bye GA-GA

Today I am going to Hamilton to say good-bye to my best friend's husband Gavin. He leaves for Edmonton tomorrow.
When I first met Gavin, his entire world consisted of only a few things: soccer, cycling; alphaghetti, chicken fingers and fries, peanut butter sandwiches, and chips ahoy cookies. Over the last 9 years I have watched him change so much, sometimes I can hardly recognize him.

He went from someone who didn't even know there was an election going on (let alone who was running or what the issues were) to someone who can have a political debate with people from ANY country, from someone who hadn't read a book in eons to someone who has become smarter than me, from a new "stick shift" driver to a primo mechanic, from a guy who only ate the above mentioned foods to one who will gladly eat falafels (although, we originally told him they were veggie burgers), from a guy who had barely left southern Ontario to a guy who can feel comfortable traveling anywhere, and has friends around the world, from a guy who barely drank, but can now drink me under the table, from a guy who had no interest in children to a great father; from someone I called a "misogynist ass" to someone I am proud to call one of my best friends in the whole world.

I'm gonna miss you.

Miss Me?

Hi! I'm still here!
It's been a crazy crazy week, and this morning I woke up feeling completely shattered. So, it is 4:00 in the afternoon, and I am sitting on the couch in my pj's. Thanks labour laws for sick days.

I headed to Ottawa for the weekend to visit some friends and family. I always try to pack too much in when I go out of town, so I didn't really have any down time when I was there.

On Sunday I drove my Aunt from California back to Toronto, and we went to my parents for dinner. Sunday was mother's day. I'm not so great at remembering those things. Oops.

My brother was there too, so we decided to make butter tarts for her as a "gift". She loves butter tarts, and her mother used to make fantastic ones, but she hasn't been able to replicate them.

I used to bake quite a bit, but was never very good at it, and all my brother has likely made are brownies, so we were pretty sure we would be successful!
the recipe was my grandmother's original, pretty old fashioned. Calling for "butter the size of an egg". Yup, "the size of an egg". I think that's where the excessive amounts of wine was helpful, we didn't stress too much about it, just winged it.

I made the pastry crust, and Dave made the filling...... and you know, we didn't do too bad! The pastry was pretty good, and the filling was just a little too runny, but nobody turned down seconds!

Unfortunately, I didn't have my camera, but maybe if my mom ever figures out how to use hers, I can post one.

I'm A Suck

Don't give me sympathy and suggest drinks... tell me to get a grip! It's not all that bad. Really, my lesson from that last post is that I should not blog on only a few hours sleep, when the sun has not yet come up......

Anyway, what I did to try and cheer myself up was to go yarn shopping. I am still having dreams about the Handmaiden Seasilk, and have in fact been stalking the Naked Sheep, waiting for the order to come in.

Sunday morning I woke up thinking "today is the day the Sea Silk is there, and if I don't hurry, I will miss it".
So off I went. When I got there, Denny was talking to another customer, so I lurked the isles. I saw lots of new Handmaiden stuff, but no Sea Silk. AAAH! I missed it, it's all sold out!

But no, Denny immediately assured me that it had not come in yet (funny how she didn't need to ask me what I was looking for, perhaps it's the stalking thing).

So we sat and chatted, and flipped through the new Interweave Knits. I've wanted to do a lace hairband for awhile, and low and behold, page 107, there it is!

So I bought a ball of Hempathy in a cute light green. Much cheaper shopping therapy than Sea Silk. But I think I need to finish something else before I start this one....

In other knitting news, I'm still plugging away on the socks. I think I'll focus on these this week. My mom wants them, and mothers day is coming up...

And the VK knit top is coming along nicely. The sides and shoulder are seamed, and I gave it a little try on. It looks like it may actually fit! I have LOTS of yarn left, so I've knit the collar, and now need to do the ties and edging.

And- here's a shout out to Kathleen, who apparently lurks, but finally left a comment- Hi Kathleen! Let's eat wings soon!

Hrmm... blogger won't let me post photos right now, can I get back to you?
Woop- a day later it works!

Bad Blogger

I just haven't been feeling the blogging love lately, I feel like I have nothing to say or show you, and really, I'm a little bummed out.
Why? Well, let me tell you.....
  • my dumbass landlords have decided to sell the building I live in. I am terrified the new owners will want to convert it to offices, as they have done in the neighbouring buildings. I hate moving.
  • I have 5 knitting or crochet patterns on the go, but nothing of interest to photograph
  • my best friend is moving to Edmonton
  • i just found out my cousin's daughter has a very large cyst on her brain, and needs to have surgery at the end of the month. Her mom is terrified (rightfully so)
  • I have no clue what to do with my life in September, apparently saving up to go to Alberta (which is also where my cousin lives)
  • and please note that it is 6:30 am. I have been up for an hour. I am usually still in bed. I am starting another stint of insomnia, and I am so freaking tired!
It's not all bad, really. I should probably just go and have some coffee, coffee always makes me feel better.

Wanna giggle? Go read my brothers' website. I think I'll do that while I drink my coffee.
