Toronto Construction

This is what I walked out to out my front door this morning. I can't even cross the street!
Sometimes living in Toronto sucks.

So close!

I'm almost done.... all I have left to do is weave the ends in, and then sew in the zipper- hopefully I'll be wearing it Saturday!

Oh, and I started a hat out of Manos del Uruguay, using this pattern. But I used 7mm needles, so only cast on 68 stitches.

I'm house sitting next week, so may not have many posts- but I will try to get a pic of a finished Mariah up!

My Inner Irish

What a surprise:

Your Inner European is Irish!

Sprited and boisterous!

You drink everyone under the table.

Almost there

I finished knitting the hood for Mariah last night- it was the longest 14" ever!
I even figured out how to graft it together rather than casting off and seaming. I am so smart.
So, tonight I seam, Thursday I shop for zippers, and hopefully Friday I sew it in.
If that doesn't work, I will consult with my lovely and talented mummy on the weekend for assistance.
No pics yet, but soon, I promise!

Baby Hoggers

So I went to the baby shower on Sunday.
I typically hate these things, but Kim is a good friend, and I hadn't had a chance to meet Joshua yet, so I went.
I no longer "typically" hate them- now I ALWAYS hate them. I don't ever want to go to one again.
I came all the way from Toronto, to stand by the doorway for three hours. Yup, three hours. Never even got to hold him. I had a fleeting glance of him up close while his mom was feeding him, but other than that, his dad's family was hogging him. They would hold him for an hour or so, and then pass him off to another family member. HELLO! You guys get to see him all the time! Why not let some out-of-towners check him out. I was getting so pissy about it, that I actually started making snarky comments- like "whoever gave the next gift should get to hold the baby", and "I've known her longer than you", but did they get the hint? No, they just kept passing him amongst themselves.

I've decided they are evil.

(Actually, I probably already knew that. At the Jack and Jill for the wedding a few years ago, I had to hip-check one of the sister-in-laws out of the way to make sure I won the prize I wanted. A family member winning a prize? Isn't that against the rules? )

I'm in the hood

Here's a little Mariah update- I took these pics this morning, while I was still working on the yoke:

Since then, I have finished the yoke, and started on the hood- I tried to do the short row shaping, both with a wrap and without- still got the bumps- apparently I am riding the "short bus" on my short rows..... HA HA HA!
Anyway, I have skipped them and kept going. Hopefully tonight I'll get closer to the top!

Also- here's a pic of the gift I made for my friend Isla- not that the weather is right for them anymore though!

to mary kay or not to mary kay....

OK- first of all, I did see Wicked the other night, and it was fantastic! It was based on the book, although they took some liberties, and changed quite a bit about the ending. The music was great, and the performers voices were fantastic! I highly recommend it.

As for the Mary Kay... my Aunt has been selling Mary Kay forever, and she is now a "global director", and is really pushing to recruit me. Their stuff is good- I've never complained about the free samples she's given me, and I know I'd already have a customer in my mom, because she's hooked on their skin care stuff, and because I've helped keep her creative memories scrapbooking going..... but I'm just not sure if I want to be one of those people.... you know? Will I get all pushy about it and talk about nothing else? Will my hair get big and I'll wear too much makeup?

Will I be coveting a pink Cadillac in 5 years? If any of this happens, you have to promise to kill me, ok?

Wicked!

I get to go see the musical Wicked tonight! The Wizard of Oz has always been my favourite movie, so when I heard abou this musical a couple of years ago, when it was in New York, I got very excited.
I read the book last year, and it was good too, so I can't wait for tonight!

My new boyfriend

So, do you remember my friend Kim with the great big belly? Well, that great big belly turned out to be a great big boy!
Meet Joshua- he was born Saturday April 9th, at 11lbs, 2oz! ouch!

josh

I get to meet him on Sunday at the baby shower.

Back to mariah.....

I finished the gift for Isla last night... I even managed to whip up a little beanie hat to go with the gloves and scarf. Of course, the batteries in my camera are dead, so I can't post a picture.

I'm going to try and get back to Mariah today. The neckline is way too big, so I think I'm going to frog the yoke, and re-do the math so that it ends up the same number of stitches as the small.

I have big boobs, but a small neck!

I'll let you know how that goes......

drinking is bad

For Knitting:
  • I got home last night and thought I would work on the scarf for Isla. I had to frog quite a mess when I got up this morning. I should have taken a picture!

For training runs

  • I did one of the Nike training runs this morning. I seriously thought I was going to barf. I held it all in though. We got messed up on the route, so I think I actually ran (with lots of walking breaks) closer to 7 km than 5.

I'm Back!

So sorry about the lack of posts lately! I spent a week cat sitting for a friend, and then promptly headed to Cuba for a week (tough life, I know!).
Anyway......

While I was cat sitting, a lovely envelope of stitch markers arrived, compliments of CJ. I LOVE them! In fact, this isn't all of them, because some of them are being used on the gloves I am making for my friend Isla....

A few months back, when I had made a string of scarves, Isla hinted that she would like a set of gloves and a scarf for her birthday, so here they are.... still a WIP (even though her birthday is tomorrow!), but getting there. The extra
small size worked out much better.
I did (am doing... ) the scarf in a k2, p2 rib, but I think I made it too wide with too small of a needle, I'm on the 4th ball of yarn, and think I'll need at least on meore to make it long enough!
Luckily she doesn't want to have any festivities this weekend, so it gives me some more time to finish!

When I returned from Cuba- this lovely package was in the mail.....

I joined a thread exchange with the RCY news group, and this is what I received from Bonnie in Texas. The red is a Brown Sheep, the bottom left is Manos, the brown bobbly stuff is Noro (I think, I don't have it with me right now), and the other two are embroidery threads. The white one is really sparkly. I'm sure I can use it in something fancy as an edging!

And, last but not least.... it's time to get my butt in gear, so I entered the Nike 10km Run. I have to admit, the part that closed the deal was the bonus training shirt that you get when you register... that's ORANGE! How can I turn down a free orange shirt? I can't. Although, as my dad pointed out, it's not really free, because I had to pay $50 bucks to register.... but I do get another one for race day.... maybe it will be orange too! Oh joy!

Anyway, I had better get home so I can dig out my running shoes from the closet.....
